Introduction to Gold and Silver Investing

2008 was an interesting year for gold and silver investing. Towards year's end we saw record numbers of new investors who chose to get into gold and silver investing, forgoing the usual stocks and realty investment options that have become turbulent and unpredictable, to put it nicely, over the last few years.

People have opted to buy into metals for a very simple reason: Metals investing is simply more stable. Stock investments can go belly up, investment banks can close and realty prices can plummet. Meanwhile, while gold and silver do have their ups and downs, the historical tendency has always been for metal prices to rise over time and this is exactly why gold and silver investing is growing in popularity while fewer and fewer companies are offering solid 401K packages.

Most recently, precious metal investment grade coins have become a very popular option for gold and silver investing. This is due simply to their convenience. If you're new to metals and want to buy gold and silver you might think of bars and bricks, and that's easy enough if you're a billionaire, but gold and silver St. Gaudens and similar coins make it easy to put a few hundred dollars into your metals investment at a time. When you see that the prices of gold and silver are about to rise you can simply buy gold and silver coins, just enough to top your investment off and then not worry about it. Likewise if you need a little cash for a rainy day, you don't need to cash in thousands of dollars worth of metal at a time, you can simply sell as many coins as you need to sell in order to meet your goals or take care of unforeseen circumstance.

It's simply a smart option. Where stocks and realty have become wild and unpredictable, precious metals have almost always been solid to some extent. Certainly metals do have their declines now and then, but the price almost invariably tends to recover quite quickly. True, the pay off for metals may be less "explosive" than stocks, which have a tendency to rise overnight, but that also means that metals won't crash overnight either.

It's certainly a good thing that more and more people are turning to metals as the foundation of their investments and we can only hope that they retain these metals investments. In the past there has been something of a tendency for people to jump into gold and silver investing during times of crisis, only to cash in the minute the American dollar starts to take a turn for the better.

The fact is that you'd be wise to hold onto your metals investments in times of both economic strife and economic ease. Metals are not a "desperation" option, but rather an option to keep investors from ever having to become desperate. By keeping some amount of money in metals as opposed to cash, investment accounts, or other options, you should be able to always have money for a rainy day.

Cleaning your hearing aids

Hearing aids which fit in the ear.

When removing your hearing aid before you go to bed you should carefully wipe down with a soft dry cloth or tissue. You should also spend some time inspecting the part of the hearing aid that fits into the ear canal as it is likely that a accumulation of ear wax may have occurred. If this is the case then you will have to remove the wax. When you purchased the hearing aids you should receive a cleaning tool which can be used to do this which usually takes the form of a wire pick or a brush or you could also use a toothbrush.

Hearing aids which fir behind the ear.

As with the above, the procedure is similar. However, the main difference being that the ear mould which fits into the ear which is usually made of Lucite or silicone which is non-electrical and therefore can be washed in mild soapy water. Before washing it is important to ensure the earpiece is disconnected from the behind the ear section to ensure the electrical part of the hearing aid does not get wet. Dry the ear piece correctly before using and also ensure that the tube is clear of water. Please note that the tube may need to be replaced after a period of time usually 3 to 6 months as the flexibility may be lost.

Things not to do…

1. Wash the hearing aid with solvents or alcohol as this may cause the materials from which the aid is made to break down. You can purchase special cleaning fluids designed to clean hearing aids.

2. Don’t let the electrical part of the hearing aid get wet. Avoid wearing the aid when showering of bathing.

3. Try not to drop the hearing aid, especially on a hard floor as this may cause the hearing aid to break.

The Technological Advancement of Digital Hearing Aid

In this modern age it seems that just about anything that can has "gone digital." This includes common things from photographs to phone calls to music and much more. It is hard to dispute that "digital" is the in thing and one reason for this is that there are definite advantages to digital technology in most cases. In the realm of assistive listening devices, digital is also in and digital hearing aids are becoming the standard.

Digital hearing aids were first introduced to the marketplace over twenty years ago, in the early 1980s. However, they did not immediately gain in popularity, mainly because of their size and the fact that they were so easily seen while being worn, even more so than the traditional analogue, in the ear hearing aids.

However, in the decade of the 90s, the fast developments that were happening in technology in general, and the major advancements in miniaturization in specific, brought about an entirely new crop of digital hearing aids that were considerably smaller in size. This smaller size allowed these units to be more discrete, lightweight and comfortable and led to a surge in popularity.

Many people think that nowadays all of them are digital. But the fact of the matter is that the traditional analogue and the high-tech digital devices work quite differently.

As a result, both types of its products are still on the market and likely will be for some time to come. The analogue units use a microphone to pick up sounds, which are then converted to electrical signals, which are then amplified.

The more advanced analogue hearing aids are programmed to compress the sound through a process of "automatic gain control." This is done to amplify quieter sounds so they can be heard readily, yet at the same time filter out the louder sounds that do not need to be amplified.

This is intended to protect the person wearing them from uncomfortably loud noises. Unfortunately, even the best of the analogue devices do not accomplish this important task as well as digital hearing aids do.

The digital types of hearing aids are based on a completely different principle than analogue units. They are designed to better overcome the issues related to background noises. Digital devices convert the input from the microphone into digital bits of information which can then be processed through a minute computer that is an integral part of these types of assistive listening devices.

This process makes it possible to monitor the various incoming sounds and better process these sounds in ways that simply is not possible for analogue devices to match. The most advanced of the digital aids can be adjusted in almost infinite ways to meet the needs of the individual wearers. Many models even have the capacity to adjust automatically to correct for various circumstances and unique sound environments.

Even with the advancements in digital hearing aids, the technology is still not foolproof. Very noisy situations, such as are often encountered in noisy bars, pubs and restaurants can still present a challenge. One way to overcome very noisy backgrounds is to wear hearing aids in both ears which can help to better filter out the ambient noise that often distorts conversations.

Chiropractor Says Space-Age Technology Provides Down-To-Earth Benefits For Patients

What does the Russian space program have to do with chiropractic care? Quite a bit, according to Tom Lenahan, DC.

Dr. Lenahan, who has practiced chiropractic as a second career for 15 years, says he’s seen tremendous breakthroughs in patient healing through the use of electrical stimulation—a concept first researched by the Russians for their space program. The Russian government developed the research because it wasn’t practical to send an entire pharmacy along to keep their space explorers healthy. So, Russian scientists started looking for healing alternatives.

“As they began to explore how electricity works in the body, they realized it’s the body’s primary driver system,” says Lenahan. The researchers found that the body has two electrical components. The first, the nervous system, is like the hard wiring, says Dr. Lenahan. The second wasn’t as well understood.

“They discovered the body has a second component to it,” Lenahan continues. “It is a semi-conducting system in the body, much like your computer. They realized they could stimulate that fascial, semi-conducting system to send a signal to the brain and get it to produce various neuropeptides. This gave them an effective, efficient means of treatment for anything they would run into in space. It’s still one of the primary components of the Russian battlefield first-aid kit.”

It might still sound like a strange fit with chiropractic techniques, but Lenahan insists it isn’t. In fact, Lenahan discovered the power of electrical stimulation in his own quest to find better ways to help his chiropractic patients.

“As I got into chiropractic school, I realized there were many facets that were needed to help the body heal,” says Dr. Lenahan. “In our profession, there are those who are ‘straights’ and those who are ‘mixers.’ I’m the mixer’s mixer. I’ve always sought avenues and technology that would benefit my patients.”

That’s why he was so excited when he found the technology of electrical stimulation. He’s so enthusiastic about it, he speaks on the topic at numerous seminars, including the upcoming International Chiropractic Appreciation Mega Event (ICAME) in Las Vegas in January. While there, he says he’ll give an in-depth scientific presentation on this startling technology.

“It works for acute injuries, but also for the chronic degenerative condition,” he says. “This technology is able to add energy into the system and retard that degenerative process.”

Not only will this technique allow chiropractors to help their patients in ways never thought possible, says Lenahan, but it will also result in a boost in chiropractic practices.

“The…units will let you address really severe pain. They will help you alleviate that and get your patients back in, and keep them coming in,” Dr. Lenahan explains.

“A lot of times we lose patients because the pain is so severe, and they feel they have to go someplace and get drugs. This will help you manage that type of process.”

Information on Hearing Aids - Everything You Should Know

Hearing aids are devices that are designed to amplify sounds and improve the hearing capabilities of those who are partially deaf due to age or medical conditions. Originally, the hearing aid was an analog device that simply amplified sounds. Today, there are many different digital models that technology has created, allowing people who need hearing devices to get the best quality of sound and clarity that they deserve.

When it comes to buying a hearing aid, people should understand that they are not restoring their hearing, but simply improving the noise level of the sounds that they can hear. Here is some more information on hearing aids.

When seeking information on hearing aided devices you will find that there are over 1,000 different kinds that you can buy. The exact one that you choose depends on your specific needs as well as which you like best. If you have insurance or a plan to pay for your hearing aid, you might be limited in your selection.

However, when it comes to getting one, not many people can get them covered by insurance, making it very easy to choose the ones that suit them best. Considering that hearing aids are a medical device, the lack of available insurance is startling. However, many people have accepted this, and simply work out payment plans or use their savings to pay for them.

Now, here is some information on hearing aid operations. Every hearing aid comes with 3 main parts. They have a microphone, which is for receiving sounds, an amplifier that increases the loudness of the sounds, and a speaker or receiver that sends the sound to the ear.

All hearing aid devices are battery operated, and need to be kept in optimal working order for best results every time. There are various devices that you can buy, including in-ear aids, aids that go in the ear canal, behind the ear hearing aids, and even body-placed hearing aids.

What about information on hearing aids costs and expenses? Well, first there is the medical exam and tests that need to be done. An audiologist will perform this procedure, and use the results to determine which hearing aids a person needs.

Getting the right aid is essential to your success in using them. Sadly, insurance doesn't generally cover the costs of exams or devices related to hearing loss. You should not avoid getting a hearing device simply because your insurance doesn't cover it . . .

Committing Ones Self to the Community

By way of introduction my name is Steve P. AND I am Executive Vice President of Sherwood Information Partners in Colorado, successful businessman, contributor to multiple charities and a modest philanthropist. I am writing you in support of Greg Reyes. Please let me give you some background on me and explain why I believe it is in the best interest of our community and Greg's family to avoid excessive sentencing particularly incarceration.

Did you know Greg Reyes has had a big impact on dozens of kids with cancer and sent an underprivileged inner city youth to California State University, but I will bet he did not know it? In order to understand this statement and why I feel so strongly about Greg Reyes' important role in our community allow me to tell you more about me.

My wife and I have two children of which we are very proud. The eldest, Matt is currently in New Zealand working on a professional accreditation and my daughter, Alexandra attends our local catholic high school with a special interest in international studies, Spanish language, and dreams of collegiate volleyball. As I mentioned in my introduction I continue to have a very successful life and career. My success is quite remarkable given a background of a broken home, I lost my mother at age 5, was sexually molested and raised on public financial assistance "welfare" growing up in San Gabriel Valley / East LA. At that time many would have said "least likely to succeed". As a teen I made a commitment to learn from adversity and focus on the positive influencers in order to shape my life. As I matured and became successful, I aspired to give back to the community in various ways. My life purpose developed into doing what I can to positively impact the community and be a catalyst for others to succeed through role modeling, philanthropy, and promoting good will. I came to this purpose as a direct result of a few individuals who made a profound positive influence on my life. Greg is one of those people.

Greg Reyes and I met in 1988. He was vice president of sales for a technology company when he gave me the opportunity as a salesman at a "start-up" technology company, Banyan Systems. Banyan went on to become a successful public company. Frankly it was the beginning of what turned out to be a great career for me. Greg took a chance and invested in me personally. I studied him in order to create success tor me personally and professionally. Again in 1998 Greg was instrumental in assisting me secure my first executive sales position as vice president of sales at a Nuera Communications. Greg has been a tremendous role model and leader to me. I learned a great deal from him about leadership, compassion, trust, loyalty, and friendship.

The success I achieved due largely by leadership from Greg Reyes has provided me the opportunity to assists others. My wife and I donate countless hours and money over the years to charities such as Camp Okizu in Marin County which offers children with cancer and their families an opportunity to learn independence, nourish positive self esteem and gain skills they thought were not possible through week long camp programs. The inner city youth mentioned above is named Jordanna Perez1. Jordanna had a similar childhood background as me along with the familiar desire to break out of the negative environment to pursue her goal of pre-law at Chico State. She now works in San Francisco at the law firm of Collette Erickson Farmer and O'Neil. Greg Reyes was the catalyst for my success, which in turn created opportunities for my children, hundreds of other children and enabled Jordanna Perez to attend college. Greg Reyes is directly and indirectly responsible for every person I help, whether it is mentoring, financial assistance, or charitable work. In turn many of these people will go on assist others.

The Jury rendered their decision, but they could not know the profound positive impact Greg Reyes has had on my life and the continuum set in motion for many others as a result of his leadership, commitment, friendship, and trust.

Your Honor please consider my plea to you to allow Greg Reyes to raise his children without interruption, they need him. Allow Greg to continue his important role in our community. Greg has and will continue to create positive personal and business influences, which we need. This is not an emotional or sentimental plea to you but a continuum of hope for many people in which Greg Reyes touches directly and indirectly. It is my belief he will continue to have a profound positive impact on our communities.

Infections and Your Child's Hearing

Ear infections are a highly common part of the childhood experience; in the US, about 75% of children contract at least one before the age of three. Some children are especially prone to this problem due to abnormalities of the Eustachian tube (which connects the inner ear to the throat) or the fact that their immune systems are less developed than average.

These conditions can cause pain, a blocked or "full" feeling in the air, and reduced hearing ability. While all of these symptoms are usually temporary and leave when the illness is treated, severe or multiple infections can have long-term effects.

Types of Ear Infections

While people of any age can suffer from bacteria or viral infections in any part of the ear, these conditions most frequently affect young children. Some of the more common kinds include:

  • Otitis media with effusion - If you have ever heard the term "fluid in the ear," the speaker was actually referred to OME. This condition occurs when fluid begins to collect in the middle ear, the area between the external ear and the cochlea where the small bones (ossicles) that allow hearing are located. OME can be the result of a viral respiratory infection, a bacterial infection, or it may have no particular cause. It generally does not cause any pain or other symptoms. If the fluid builds up for too long, it may become infected and cause permanent damage to the ear drum (the membrane between the ossicles and the cochlea).
  • Acute otitis media - This is a bacterial infection of the middle ear, which may cause swelling and a buildup of pus that could block hearing. It is often accompanied by pain and sometimes a low-level fever. It can generally be treated with antibiotics. In rare, severe cases, permanent damage to the middle ear may result.
  • Viral respiratory infections - In some cases, head colds, the flu, or other respiratory diseases can reach the inner ear through the Eustachian tube. Without prompt treatment, they can affect the cochlea, a small fluid-filled organ that plays a vital role in hearing. The resulting damage may fade over time or may be permanent.

While other kinds of illnesses can affect the ears, these basic categories include most of the more common example.

Protecting Your Child

Remember, the odds of your child losing his or her hearing due to illness are rare; there is no need to panic or become paranoid. However, if your child is showing symptoms of an ear infection - complaining of pain in the ears, frequently rubbing or pulling on the ears, failure to acknowledge speech or other sounds - take him or her to a qualified pediatrician as soon as you can.

The Ups and Downs of Downloadable DS Games

What is a DS?
The DS, or Nintendo DS, is an advanced technology apparatus that plays video games on a duel screen monitor. It is a handheld game system that allows gaming enthusiasts to bring high quality games with them when they are on the road or otherwise unable to play a counsel system. However, with the DS, has become a standalone system that has most gamers itching to try it. It was developed and produced by the Nintendo organization and was released in 2004 in multiple countries including Canada, Japan, the United States and the United Kingdom. The clamshell design is similar to the Game Boy Advance, which was the predecessor to the Nintendo DS, but the Nintendo DS has duel screens with the lower one being designed as a touch screen.

Download DS Games
Though there are some problems with downloadable DS games, they hardly outweigh the possible positives when it comes to these games. Downloadable DS games are games that can be downloaded off the wireless internet that is available for the Nintendo DS. These games are similar to WiiWare games in that they are not usually full length games, but they are still fantastically composed and capable of providing hours of gaming fun. There are even some free downloadable DS games available, but these are rarer than the purchased ones.
A few cons to downloadable DS games include the fact that the download speed is relatively poor. When downloading a game for the DS, it can take many minutes, even hours in some extreme cases. This can be more than a little frustrating for those that want to just play the game.
Another problem is that there is a possibility for an adware infiltration which can potentially do damage to the DS. However, this is only caused by poor usage of the wireless internet system.
These few cons are not enough to make the whole of the system poor. The Nintendo DS has many games online that may be downloaded on the SD card of the system. This can allow numerous downloadable games to be purchased or downloaded on a single system. The downloadable games for the DS are also very fun and very addicting. They can provide just as much if not more fun that any retail game for the DS or a consol alike. Once the games are downloaded there are usually no problems with operation.

Psychic Readings A Guide To Help From A Higher Source

Psychic readings can be anything from a tarot reading to a rune casting to astrology. A psychic reading can also be done without any divination tools. Basically, a psychic reading is when the reader tells a person, called the querent, the answers to their questions. The psychic reader uses their intuition to give the querent details and information.

Choosing a psychic reader can be difficult. There are many people who fake having psychic abilities. They tell people what they want to hear or use other tactics to give the querent answers. One of the best ways to find a psychic reader is through referrals. When a person gets a referral from a friend or relative they can usually trust that the psychic is worth going to. For someone who does not know much about how psychic reading work it can be difficult to tell the fake ones from the real ones.

A big aspect of finding a good psychic reader is that the reader and the querent need to be able to establish a good connection. The psychic connection between the querent and the reader allows the reader to open up and receive messages to give the querent. Usually a reader will know right away if they can or can not connect. If a person gets a reader that says they cannot read for them, then this is usually the case. They are not being rude, they just know they can not help you because they can not establish the connection. As a querent, the best way to tell if there is a connection is based upon the gut feeling. A querent should feel comfortable and at ease with the reader. Any hesitation or uneasiness will throw off the reading.

Once a person finds a reader they need to be able to clear their mind and focus on the situation at hand. They should have a good idea of what they want to know before starting their reading. They should be clear about their feelings in a given situation. It helps because the reader can then connect to these thoughts and feelings in order to get the answers. Many times a reader will want to hold hands or have everyone close their eyes, this is mainly to help the querent stay focused. Sometimes the reader will try to set a calm and mellow mood by using candle light and burning incense.

During the reading the reader may use tools like tarot cards, runes or even a crystal ball. These tools are just an aid for the reader and can also be helpful to the querent. A querent who is even slightly skeptical can then se by the tools that the reader is not just saying things out of thin air. The tools serve as a guide and can help clarify messages the reader may be getting.

A psychic reader can help a querent, but they can not tell them with 100% certainty that something will or will not happen. No psychic reading is positive. The future is not written in stone and as such, nobody can tell anyone else their exact future. Psychic readers can tell a person what may happen based upon their current situation. Any changes in the querent situation and their future may be altered.

A psychic reader is like a guide to the psychic realm. Some people are more prone or find it easier to communicate with those who have passed over, angels or higher beings. These people, psychic readers, work to help others try to make the most of their lives and try to help them get clarity when needed in tough situations.

Greenhouse Lighting Advice And Information

If you are one of those few people who are in love with nature, then, having a greenhouse garden at your background is an incredible idea. In fact, according to some statistical reports, 80% of the 100 people that owned greenhouses in the United States were nature lovers, while the remaining 20% said it was purely for commercial gains.

Built specially for plant cultivation, greenhouses or hothouses are specially designed to suit the needs of every plant lover. It is a sanctuary where people and plants can bond together and enjoy each other as they fill the world with lush flora and abundant greens.

In as much as greenhouses are designed to provide the perfect environment for any kind of plant, there are some cases wherein the viability of the equipment is still dependent on the owner of the greenhouse or to those who manage the area.

In this sense, it is important for every greenhouse owner to see to it that the needs of the conservatory are being met.

The Greenhouse Setting

Technically, the main concept of a greenhouse is that the plants are placed in a space confined in a specially designed structure. Since the plants were not cultivated in an open area, it is extremely important for the owner to provide the necessary requirements that the plants have.

One should keep in mind that the plants are placed in a secured place; hence, it is the responsibility of the greenhouse owner or the one who manages the place to provide the needs similar to that of the ones being enjoyed by the plants in the exterior environment.

The Lighting

One of the most important necessities of every plant in order to manufacture its own food is the light. You have probably learned from your grade school science teacher that plants need light in order to produce its own food, along with the other factors such as water and air.

With respect to the conditions inside the greenhouse, it is important for the plants to receive adequate amount of light in order to develop and grow on its maximum state. This is especially useful during winter, where no amount of natural light can be produced.

The Best Hearing Aids for the Enjoyment of Life

What are the best hearing aids, to let you get on and enjoy your life? At the most basic level hearing aids are amplifiers of sound. So, on the face of it the best hearing aid in a technological sense will be the instrument which achieves the most lifelike and faithful reproduction for clarity of sound. This was the theory until the advent of the microchip in the 1970s when programmable sound filters became available for hearing devices, and increased clarity greatly.

At about that time it was found that beyond good reproduction of the original sound, filtered aids gave a much clearer sound when each note was tuned to amplify just as much, and for those musical notes, in which the listener's natural hearing was defective. The idea of hearing assistance had moved on, and the new goal was to achieve compensation for hearing loss and not simply "turn up the volume on all notes".

So, from then on in all the best hearing aids, excellent sound reproduction for clarity, became coupled with the ability to program the device with filters to suit each user.

Hearing aids are very personal devices nowadays, and are set up to the requirements of the individual. For this reason, there is no such thing as the best hearing aid for you, until after you have your hearing tested. Never purchase hearing aids without first having an audiogram. Just because someone you know likes a particular hearing aid, it may not be the best one for you. Ask your hearing healthcare professional which instruments and options are best for you.

For children, the audiologist will also help you choose the hearing aids that best suit your child's needs and preferences.

Even the best hearing aid is useless if it's not properly maintained. Treat your hearing instrument with care. Store it carefully, and clean it regularly in the manner recommended by the manufacturer.

Hearing aids come in a variety of styles. The very best hearing aids available are not excessively expensive, and are well within the reach of most people.

Hearing aid companies naturally continually try to advance their technologies to make their products the best hearing aids on the market.

The research carried out by each major manufacturer of hearing instruments continues to bring improvements year on year. Nowadays, the best hearing aids can filter out distracting background noise. Behind the Ear (BTE) hearing aids usually come equipped with telecoils - but not always.

Hearing aids mostly range in price from $800-$2500 each. Cost is relative to the perceived value you get from hearing aids. If an aid improves your enjoyment of friends and family it is priceless.

Will hearing aids restore my hearing to normal? Unfortunately, no, there is no perfect hearing aid, only a series of compromises. When you lose your natural hearing ability, your quality of life is not the same, even with the best hearing aids. Even with the best hearing aids, patients will still need to undergo follow-up services after getting their hearing aids.

Many modern hearing aids are so scientifically advanced that they are virtually feedback free. Gone are those terrible squealing feedback noises which could identify an aid wearer even across a noisy room!

When you ask to try out a hearing aid you will have at least a 30-day trial period on your hearing aids. Very rarely are hearing aids optimally adjusted the first fitting, or the second, or even the third. Be patient with your audiologist during this period. They will continue to make adjustments for you until you are satisfied.

Unfortunately, we cannot stress too much that even the best hearing aids do not fully restore the hearing that has been lost; they just make the hearing that one has, more useful. Distance from the sound source, background noise and reverberation levels all make communication difficult - even with the best hearing aids.

But, hearing aids and other assistive listening devices can be very helpful, and you should try the even best, for a few days before buying.

Hearing aids on the NHS

For as long as most of us can remember there has been a lengthy wait for a NHS hearing assessment and the subsequent fitting of NHS analogue hearing aid, with many people waiting many months to complete the process.
The more recent introduction of digital hearing aids has greatly improved the performance of modern hearing aids. However this has also lead to an increase in demand from new users and those looking to upgrade their current analogue hearing aids. This increased demand has impacted service levels and many NHS waiting lists have increased as a result.
It is a Government commitment to ensure assessments for hearing aids are made within a six weeks. Unfortunately this target only relates to the first stage of the process and makes no difference if patients have to endure months on a waiting list before prescribed hearing aid is actually fitted. Lengthy delays between assessment and fitting can also lead to the need for a re-assessment at the time of fitting.
The RNID estimates that around five hundred thousand people are currently waiting to have digital hearing aids fitted by the NHS.

The RNID also said:

"We remain seriously concerned about the capacity of the NHS to meet the Government’s aim of ensuring that no-one waits more than 18 weeks for a hearing aid fitting by the end of 2008."

There main area of concern is that the push to meet these new targets may result in a fall in the quality of the service offered.

As a result many people in the UK choose to opt out of the NHS service and buy their digital hearing aid directly from a retailer who can offer instant services.

How to Automate Your Trading Profits?

As an entrepreneur, you will find this information useful. For the first time, there is a way to trade forex as a professional trader even when you don't have any background or experience in trading Forex at all. A Goldman Sachs' former Quantitative Analyst has revealed his secret automated trading system that helps people who really want to step in the world of Forex trading and start making some profits out of it but are afraid of learning complicated Technical Analysis or reading Forex chart.

Normally, to be able to trade Forex, one must spend at least 3-6 months to learn about Forex basics, reading Forex charts, using technical indicators to determine buy/sell/exit signals. Even learning so many things like that still can not guarantee profits because trading is ruthless, no one can predict the market. The only way to be profitable is to identify the trends and ride the trends to maximum. Only a few elite individual traders can do that! The fact is 95% of traders lose their money! (And the winners are always the big 'sharks' banks or financial institutes which have thousand of brightest brains working for them and many complicated trading systems that run on power of thousands of super computers).

However, there are still chances for small investors/traders if they are equipped with the right trading systems with good enter/exit strategies, stable money management methods... Forex Autopilot System is among those systems. It was designed to run on autopilot, just plug-and-play, to bring in profits. It is actually an Expert Advisor that runs on the platform of MetaTrader4( which is the most popular free-to-download trading platform in the industry). It is easy to install and run. It requires less than 20 minutes to monitor. That helps traders to have more free time (not sitting glued in front of computer anymore). It can work in any country, at any time.

Mark Copeland, the creator of Forex Autopilot System, does not make any outrageous claims about his system. He understands that Forex trading involves risk, and sometimes software and machines are not as accurate in making decisions as human beings. Therefore, from his experience and knowledge of working as a senior Quantitative Analyst in a big investment bank like Goldman Sachs, he only claimed that his system can make 5-25% return per month.

So, if you think you have tried everything in forex trading and you never get to the profitable status you wish, Forex Autopilot System should be in your consideration. It can have a direct impact on what you think you can achieve in Forex Trading. In the case you have no idea about Forex trading but still look for opportunities to make money from home, this system also might be able to help you because the system includes a software and a comprehensive guide about how to use the software. Given that you have no experience with MetaTrader or Expert Advisor, just read the short guide and you also can start trading with the system.

Completely In The Canal (Cic) Hearing Aids

Completely in the canal hearing aids (also known as CIC hearing aids) are, as the name suggests, hearing aids which fit entirely within the wearers ear canal. These revolutionary devices are the smallest hearing aids on the market and are invisible to the average observer who doesn’t know they are there. Most major hearing aid brands and manufacturers now offer this inconspicuous alternative to traditional behind the ear, or BTE, hearing aids.

CIC hearing aids are custom made to fit deep inside the individual wearers ear canal and are said to mimic the natural auditory process more closely then any other style of hearing aid. They are best suited to people with a mild to moderate hearing loss. There are a number of advantages and disadvantages that should be taken into consideration when deciding between CIC hearing aids and the BTE models.

For audiologists, otologists, speech therapists and other hearing professionals, the primary appeal of CIC hearing aids are their acoustic advantages. They are able to closely simulate environmental, and more importantly, speech sounds, patterns, nuances etc. This is imperative to a hearing impaired individual’s competency with the spoken word. Additionally, since CIC hearing aids are worn closer to the eardrum then their BTE counterparts, their microphones are better able to amplify and therefore give a boost to any residual hearing the wearer may have. The advantage that is most often touted by the wearers of CIC devices, however, is their cosmetic appeal and inconspicuousness.

Conversely, it is important to keep in mind that CIC hearing aids also have some drawbacks. If financial constraints are a part of the picture, it should be noted that completely in the canal hearing aids are somewhat more expensive to purchase then behind the ear hearing aids are. Another issue that may make them cost prohibitive to those on a tight budget is that increased susceptibility to ear wax build up puts CIC hearing aids at higher risk for damage, therefore necessitating pricey repair bills or replacement hearing aids.

Whereas BTE hearing instruments are appropriate for almost all hearing impaired individuals regardless of the type or degree of hearing loss, CIC hearing aids are not recommended for individuals with certain kinds of hearing loss. They are also unlikely to be prescribed or advised for children. First of all children tend to be less able to tolerate the discomfort and irritations that sometimes come along with the use of CIC models, especially in the beginning.

Plus children’s ear canals aren’t done growing, so they will need to be refitted and replaced much more often for them then for adults. The size of CIC hearing aids and their even tinier batteries make them difficult to manipulate for the elderly, arthritis sufferers and others with conditions and diseases which effect fine motor control. Feedback and no volume control are two more drawbacks often mentioned by CIC hearing aid users.

Audiologists are the best resource hearing impaired individuals have to help them objectively decide whether CIC or BTE hearing aids are better for them. They can also point wearers in the direction of the best CIC hearing aids provider. Research on the pros and cons can also be done at the library or on the internet.

Alcoholism - Impact on the Alcoholic and the Family

There are addicts of all sorts all over. Now with the neoclassical definition that many are proposing it would seem that every single individual is an addict of some kind and it is only the level of addiction that varies. Addiction is a persistent on-going condition where the individual or animal would crave for a particular substance(s) or seek to repeat certain behavior(s) in order to satisfy a need(s). As is being proposed this in itself is not a problem until the individual becomes physiologically or psychological unstable when that need is not satisfied (then there is no more self-control).

It is this lost of control on the part of alcoholics and other addicts that affect every single aspect of society. First and foremost the individual is affected in a variety of ways depending on his addiction. There are those addictions that are not obvious to anyone and may remain hidden and kept secret from those close to you as well as the outside world for several years (in fact others will only know of it after you have confessed). Then there are addictions that are a little more obvious but only to those who are close to you (friends and family members) and can only be kept secret for so long. Then there are addictions that you could see from a mile way (so obvious it stinks). At every level, the individual and by extension society is affected in some way or another.

Individuals who through abuse of alcohol have become addicted are more than likely to undergo a personality change. This change of personality will definitely affect anyone who is close to them. Some alcohol addictions lead to indifference to matters and issues that were once of serious interest to the alcoholic (a college education may no longer be their top priority!). Work ethics and the sense of responsibility that an addicted person once had would no longer be upheld. Personal pride (being neat and well groomed has now taken a back seat) and self-esteem would suffer, leading to actions that are uncharacteristic of the individual.

All of these effects of alcoholism would then be spilled over into other areas of their lives. Lack of work ethics and the continuous deterioration of the quality of work they produce may lead to them eventually losing their jobs, which in turn affects the finance and well being of their family. Uncharacteristic behavior of the alcoholic could cause them to become abusive (whether it be physical, emotional or mental) to their spouse and children. There is the factor of risk-taking where their life and that of those around them become less important and they are likely to place themselves and others in life-threatening situations. Alcoholism in many cases, may lead to disassociation from friends and family members in an effort by the alcoholic to either hide his addiction or avoid criticism from others about his addiction.

Alcoholism that has lead to the addict withdrawing from close friends and in particular family members could have serious emotional effects. In many cases family members who are close to the alcoholic are completely taken aback after becoming aware of the addict's problem. This may seem rather impossible as there are obvious indicators of smell and lack of coordination among other things that would indicate that someone has been under the influence. While this may be true and family members are aware of the signs of the individual being under the influence of alcohol; you often find that it is only late into the addiction that they become convinced that the individual is an alcoholic; as much effort is usually made by alcoholics to conceal their alcoholism from other individuals.

Then there is the abuse that close family members, in particular spouses and children, are likely to be subjected to. These are likely to have even longer lasting impact on the family. In many cases, after the alcoholism has been dealt with and treated, the scars from such abuse would remain as a thorn when trying to mend broken relationships. For many families involving alcoholism, the deal breaker is money. Some addictions may lead to job loss for the victims; and financial problems for their family. Studies have shown that many families under financial pressure can only hold on for so long before it all comes caving in. In some cases you may find that these very alcoholics, in order to sustain their habit, would initially deplete all of their own money (savings and joint-savings with spouse); and when that is done, try to do the same to other family members. With the alcoholic's obvious indifference to such problems and the financial strain that would be created would result in unwanted consequences. This is likely to lead to delinquencies in meeting certain obligations such as mortgage payments and utilities, which would only serve to aggravate the family situation.

Alcohol abuse, like any other drug, also greatly increases the risk of individuals developing health problems. Complications with liver, kidneys and a whole lot of other vital body organs are a common side effect of alcoholism. This not only complicates the situation for the individual but the family at large, as limited financial resources are would have to used to remedy such ailments.

Even when there has been professed cases of overcoming alcoholism, the damage done prior to attaining that victory is usually so extensive and severe that many lives (in particular that of the individual and family members) would never be the same. Lifelong relationships may have become permanently severed and the alcoholic, for the most part, would have been left completely despondent and dejected after the ordeal. It may seem unfair to many victims of alcoholics and family members where addictions have brought total chaos and destruction that those alcoholics need their total love and support. It is true, alcoholics need every bit of their love ones that could be offered when recovering from alcoholism and even more so while they are still being controlled by it. So whenever possible be patient and loving towards those who need you most; even when it seems like that most difficult thing to do.

Is a Credit Card right for you?

So, you just received an application for a credit card in the mail or you happened to come across one on the internet, how do you know if you can handle a credit card or the many responsibilities that come with having a credit card?

There are some people that believe that there are certain personal characteristics that can help to determine if you are responsible enough to have a credit card or if you should hold off on getting one.

1. Excessive spender-are you an excessive spender? Do you have a problem with spending too much money? If so, than you should hold off on getting a credit card. Credit cards are great to have for an emergency or the occasional purchase, but not all of the time and for everyday use; unless you can keep up with the bills.
2. Previous Credit cards-Do you have several other credit cards that you have fallen behind on and/or are over limit on? If this is you, than maybe you should also hold off on getting a credit card unless you cut some of the others or pay some off.
3. Consistently late on payments-Are you ALWAYS late on payments on your bills or other purchases? This is another sign that maybe you should not have a credit cards just yet.

There are several credit cards out there specifically for those that have bad credit or no credit at all, but even if you are one of those people, think before you get a credit card. You do not want to get yourself in even more debt. Try and pay other things off first.

Above I have listed three personal characteristics that are great in helping to determine if you are ready for a credit card or not. If you fall under one or two of these characteristics, make sure you think twice before signing on the dotted line, otherwise; sign away, just don’t over do it on the spending and make sure you keep up with your purchases.

Going Green without Spending Green

We have this mistaken idea that to go green, we have to spend green dollars. Well, actually, you do not need to strain your budget just to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle. In fact, you will be fattening up your wallets with these tips on going green without spending your green dollars. And trust us, these ways are easy, effective and convenient.

Reduce Food Waste

Your grocery bill may constitute more than 50 percent of your total household bills. Thus, any and all efforts to reduce food waste will add up to big benefits to your pockets and to the environment for many reasons. You can achieve this end by:

* Reducing your food consumption in terms of shopping for groceries.
* Using leftovers for new dishes and enforcing a no-dregs policy
* Planning meals in advance to avoid too many leftovers

Use Heaters Wisely

We are so dependent on hot water for many of our needs from washing our bodies to washing our dishes and clothes. Well, go green by choosing cold water for many activities in the house. Start by taking cold showers when the weather permits instead of hot tub baths. Then progress into using unheated tap water for washing your hands, dishes and clothes. Studies have shown that tap water is just as effective in killing germs as hot water. The trick is in washing your hands properly for 20 seconds, soaking the clothes for 30 minutes to remove stubborn dirt and washing off the dregs on the eating utensils before placing on a full dishwasher.

Unplug the Appliances

You can save as much as 10-15 percent of your electricity bill simply by unplugging the cords from their sockets when these are not in use. This is because so-called phantom electricity does not flow from the grid into your appliances. And speaking of appliances, you can save money by either buying ones with the Energy Star logo or ones that have been refurbished. Of course, make sure that the refurbished appliances are also energy-efficient. You ought to save money in the long run instead of sticking to your run-down appliances. However, do recycle said old appliances with the manufacturers or with the recycling centers.

Use Recycled Materials for Your Home

As much as possible, use recycled materials for your home. You can purchase scrap lumber from hardware stores, vintage wood and glass panels from garage sales and old houses, utensils and ornaments made of recycled materials from green stores and sites, to name a few options. You will often spend less on these items and yet get as much mileage as you possibly can from them. Better yet, you should adopt the motto of environmentalists everywhere - reduce, reuse and recycle. You will soon find that indeed being eco-friendly has its rewards for you and for your children's children.

Starting today, take a look around your home and see what else needs to be done to be as environmentally-friendly as possible.

What Is A Data Center?

Why is it important to have a data center for that matter? A data center is a facility that will house a good amount of the electronic equipment (and information) that a business or group has and needs. There will be computers and communication elements in this area as well as a number of other vital components to keeping the business running smoothly. What is essential about a data center is security and maintenance.

Companies may have more than one data center as well. Most mid size or higher companies will have at least one data center though. There are many types of data that can be stored in these centers. For example, a financial institution will maintain their clients accounts, numbers and activities in the data center. Businesses will keep client names, accounts, and projects in a data center as well. Because the data a business has is so very important to their existence and their performance, turning to a data center is an excellent option for this type of storage need.

Inside of a data center you are likely to find various types of computers, internet servers as well as many other items. To keep these items safe, data centers are often built and secured physically as well as logistically to protect them. Security is extremely high. They can be one of the safest environments in the city. The main job of a data center is to maintain and run applications to allow businesses to access and manage their files effectively.

There are many information portals now devoted to the subject and we recommend reading about it at one of these. Try googling for “data center info” and you will be surprised by the abundance of information on the subject. Alternatively you may try looking on Yahoo, MSN or even a decent directory site, all are good sources of this information.

Basic Online Business Techniques

When someone starts an online business, and many do, they tend to think that they know what they are doing. In other words, they don't have a clue. Everyone keep telling them that they need a nice looking website, throw some affiliate programs on it, advertise at free classifieds pages, and watch the money roll in. Easy money, right? That's what they think.

"I don't need anyone to show me how to do this. It shouldn't be hard at all. Actually, it should be a walk in the park." Many people probably think like that. So they advertise here and there. Free classifieds. Free advertising. Maybe some forum posting every day. Free traffic, right?

A few days go by. Then a few weeks go by and they only made about $30 in sales in one month. Many continue to do this and think that if they keep doing the same thing, maybe a miracle will happen.

Not so......

It so very true that the online work at home arena is highly competitive. If you are doing the same thing and keep getting the same results over and over again, not only are you killing your potential for online success, but you are allowing other competitors to pass you by. The only thing that you need to do is to stop and find someone who is already succeeding with their online business. Become like an investigator. Investigate what they do EXACTLY on a daily basis that created that wealth for them.

Here are a few good pointers on what you can do to succeed online:

1) Start Getting Educated......

Again, find someone who is very successful online and see what they are doing on a daily basis that creates their success. Do some detailed research online as to what methods and techniques are working for them and others. You can not succeed if you keep associating yourself with people who aren't successful online. So you need to take yourself by the hands and start to associate with successful online friends.

2) You need an Auto-responder.....

Before I go into explaining this subject, it is important that you know that you will want to work with an opt in email subscribers who will come to your site and give you their personal permission to send them periodic emails. What you will not want to do is to buy email subscribers. If you do buy them and send them your emails, then this can kill you and your online reputation.

Having and opt-in email list will allow you to free up lots of your time because your prospects will be receiving messages from you periodically and automatically. The nice thing about email marketing is that instead of you having to call them each time you want to promote something, which will take you forever, your auto-responder system will be working for you while you go out and have fun.

Imagine having an opt in list of 10,000 subscribers. If you were to call each one of them to promote one of your programs, think how long it will take you to reach all of them. It would be impossible for you. With email, you can contact them all in a matter of a few seconds or minutes. You write one email and hit the "submit" button, and you are all done.

"If I don't get an auto-responder and email subscribers, will this cut my chances of succeeding online?"

I am not saying that it will, but if you do get one, your income will just keep growing all the time as your subscribers do.
3) Find a mentor

After you find someone who is very successful online, email them and tell them that you will want to work with them one on one if it is possible. Don't try going into their training thinking that you know it all. Listen and follow each guideline that they are recommending to you.

This person will be your mentor. Your coach and most of all, your friend.

By stepping out and trying a proven way to make money online, you will begin to see that you too can make a nice income online. And the best advice that I can also give you is to never ever give up. A lot of people are making nice incomes online and so can you. Believe in yourself and you will succeed.

Nursing Continuing Education For the 21st Century

One need only to scan a newspaper or read a weekly magazine to be astounded by the number of stories about new medical breakthroughs, disease processes, emerging threats of disease, or innovations in medical and health care technology. The World Health Organization warns us to prepare for a potential worldwide Bird Flu epidemic, terrorists threaten us with chemical, biological and nuclear weapons, and new protocols for ACLS are released. How is a working nurse to keep up?

Nursing education provides the basic building blocks of medical, scientific, and nursing knowledge, but competence in the nursing profession requires an ongoing process of continuing education. Continuing education for nurses is necessary for the nurse to remain up to date with the latest practice issues and it is necessary for patient's safety as well. Some states have made continuing education for nurses mandatory and require a certain number of course credit hours be attained before license renewal, or require certain mandatory course subjects, while other states leave it to the nursing professional themselves to accept a personal responsibility for their own continued learning. Regardless of whether nursing continuing education, or Nursing CEUS as such programs are commonly referred to, are mandatory in one's state or not, all nurses who describe themselves as professionals need to be willing and ready to implement change in their own practice by realizing that competence in any profession requires periodic updating.

Methods of obtaining nursing continuing education hours and the pro's and con's of each:

1. Professional Journals: Most professional nursing journals offer an article for continuing education credit. Some offer a partial credit hour or one credit hour to readers who fill out a post test after reading the article and mail it in. While some journals offer the credit for free, others charge $10 or more and in addition to the inconvenience of needing to tear out a post test form and mail it in the nurse has no official record of having taken and passed the course. Obtaining continuing education hours through professional journals is costly and inefficient in that the cost of the journal itself must be taken into consideration along with the cost of the course if there is one, and the time and expense of mailing in addition to the lack of official record of completion and lack of central maintenance of all credits accumulated by the nurse. Additionally, nurses who rely on professional journals for their CEU hours are typically only exposed to courses related to their own specialty rather than a broader range of topics that they actually need to be exposed to in today's ever evolving health care climate.

2. Seminars: Professional development programs and seminars that offer accredited continuing education hours for nurses are frequently offered at various locations in every state, in some foreign countries, and even on cruises. Employers frequently pay the registration fees for nurses to attend local seminars of short duration such as one day, but nurses still have to sacrifice their precious day off to attend them or lose time from work to do so. In addition nurses who attend seminars away from home have to pay their own travel expenses, hotel bills, and costs of meals. Needless to say cruises and foreign travel are an appealing avenue, but obtaining one's continuing education by that method is not something every working nurse can afford to do.

3. Online Nursing CEUS: The internet provides nurses access to extremely affordable and high quality accredited continuing education courses covering a plethora of professional nursing topics. Online nursing ceu courses are the gateway to nursing continuing education for the 21st century! Nurses who take advantage of online ceu courses are not restricted by geographical barriers, financial hardships, or the inconvenience of taking time from work or family in order to attend courses. Online nursing continuing education courses are readily available for both mandatory state required subjects, courses in one's own nursing specialty, and courses that all nurses regardless of practice specialty need to be familiarized with so nurses have access to a much broader choice of subject matters than they ever had before when restricted primarily to journals or seminars. In addition to those benefits, substantial as they are, online nursing ceu courses are inexpensive, up to date with changing trends, can be taken from the comfort of one's own home, generally allow nurses who take them to keep an official record of courses completed and credit hours earned online with the course provider, and allow nurses who complete a course to print the course certificate immediately upon completion.

In order to stay professional and to safeguard the wellbeing of the public nurses need to continue their education over the course of their career through a variety of means including taking continuing education courses. The most convenient and most cost effective method of nursing continuing education is by taking online Nursing CE courses. Online nursing continuing education courses are readily available, flexible, offer online tracking, and provide nurses with the broad scope of subjects they need to familiarize themselves with in order to keep up to date in today's ever changing health care climate. Online nursing continuing education is indeed the face of nursing continuing education for the 21st century!

1,000 Song Searches: A Comparison of Music Searching with iTunes and Zune Marketplace

Being an iTunes user for several years, I never thought much about its search capabilities. Until, that is, I experienced the elegance of Zune software's search.

When searching for a song with iTunes, you enter a search term or two (example: "Van Morrison"), and press the Search button to see a list of matching results.

Simple enough. But if you spelled 'Morrison' wrong (with one r, perhaps, or two s's), iTunes won't return any hits. At best, if you're lucky, you'll see a "did you mean...?" message from iTunes.

And don't try partial searches, either. If you try to save time and avoid errors by entering "van mor", you likewise won't get any Van Morrison hits in your iTunes search results.

Another scenario: enter "Eddie Cochrane" as your search term, and iTunes returns no matches. Why? Because the artist you're looking for is Eddie Cochran... you have to lose the trailing e, otherwise iTunes won't help you.

iTunes search is simply unforgiving of typos or incomplete words, and returns only songs that are exact matches to your search terms.

Zune software, on the other hand, is much more forgiving, and much more effective as a tool for finding music. Most noticeably, it provides dynamic searching. As you enter your search terms, a filtered list of search results appears in the details pane. Every letter you press further filters the list - so as you spell your song name or artist name, you can see the results changing dynamically. You get immediate feedback on what you're looking for.

Because of the dynamic search, you can use partial spellings in your search. Enter "van mor", for example, and you'll see all Van Morrison songs appear as you key in the letters.

Zune software lets you mix and match partial search terms for artist and song name, too. This can be a very quick way to filter your results down to a desired song. Enter "van mor moon", and you'll get an idea of how quickly you can filter down to see Van Morrison's track Moondance.

Another useful trait of Marketplace search: it returns everything in that artist's catalog - even items that may not be available for download. This actually facilitates search - by providing a positive hit on your search terms. With iTunes, you have to scroll through search results to be sure you're not missing it, buried among the tribute albums and cover versions by other artists. Or, that you haven't missed it because of iTunes' lack of forgiveness about typos and partial search terms.

On the flip side: While iTunes search is primitive, it is responsive. Press enter, and the results come back faster than the dynamic search of Marketplace.

The benefits of Marketplace search really hit home to me recently during our Rock'n'Roll research, where I and a small team searched for 500 rock and roll songs in each of iTunes and Marketplace. The efficiencies of Zune's Marketplace really stood out in that research project.

Zune software may not be perfect, but when it comes to helping you find the music you want... it blows the doors off of iTunes.

The Best Place to Put SEO Copy on Your Web Page

It seems like a funny question to me, but it gets asked a lot. "Where should the SEO copy go on my Web page?" That question gets asked so much because there are several pieces of out-of-date information, rumors and myths with regard to text placement, when writing SEO copy.

For instance, many absolutely swear that the copy has to be as high up on the page as possible for the search engines to find it. Not true. The spiders will find the text regardless of where it is on your page. Others say all your text has to be in one block. Also not true. The spiders will find the text regardless of where it is on your page.

Other statements I've heard regarding text placement include:

· Your headline must appear at the very top of the page.

· Copy placed inside tables throws the search engines off.

· Copy must be positioned above the fold to be found by the spiders.

None of these are true. The spiders will find the text regardless of where it is on your page. (Or did I already say that… twice?) This is true in 99.9% of the cases, with only some very rare exceptions.

So where is the best place to put SEO copy on your Web page? Wherever it makes sense to the site visitor!

Spiders will find your text regardless of where it falls on the page. Want proof? Here's a test. Go to Google and type in any working URL. When the result comes up for that site, click on: "Show Google's Cache of…" In the box that appears at the top of the next page, click on this option: "This cached page may reference images which are no longer available. Click here for the cached text only." What do you see?

You see exactly what the search engine sees. If the text appears in this text-only cache, that means Google's spider can read it and index it.

Put Copy Where It Is Most Beneficial to Your Visitors

Since the engines will find your text regardless of where it falls on the page, your focus should be placed on the site visitor. This is where your focus should always be. The people who have the money come first; the search engines come second. :)

If it makes sense for your visitors to see your headline as the first thing on the page, then put it first. If a graphic design element makes more sense, then put that first. If you use photos or other images, include captions so your visitors understand what these photos mean and how they relate to the sales message.

If you have an ecommerce site, create pages for each category of products you offer in order to help guide the visitors' steps. Then add short copy segments that quickly describe what is offered for each specific product. Even though the copy is scattered all about the page, the engines WILL find it.

When it comes to copy placement on your Web pages, don't agonize over what the engines want you to do. Give 100% of your consideration to what would be most useful for your visitors and place your copy in those areas. The spiders will find it with no trouble at all.

Can Hypnosis Help to Eliminate Pain?

Pain is a subject that touches everyone. After all, it is a human condition from which we all suffer at one time or another. There are headaches, dental procedures, sports injuries, broken bones, soft-tissue injuries, and psychosomatic pain.

Research shows that 75% to 80% of all adults will experience lower back pain at some time in their lives. Approximately 40 million Americans suffer from arthritis pain and as many as 45 million suffer from chronic, recurring headaches. There are thousands of people every year who suffer the agony of surgical interventions and thousands more who endure the pain of debilitating or terminal illnesses.

All of this pain falls into two basic categories: (1) acute pain, which is of short duration and (2) chronic pain, which continues for weeks, months or years.

Most people respond to pain - whether acute or chronic - by taking drugs of some kind. But drugs are often a temporary solution.

What few people realize is that the ancient art of hypnosis offers a safe, effective alternative for reducing sensitivity to pain.

Hypnosis has been shown effective in the management of various types of pain. Besides providing an effective solution for maladies such as headaches and acute injuries, hypnosis offers a unique solution for those suffering from chronic conditions like back pain and arthritis as well as intermediate and advanced stages of cancer. Studies show that patients with chronic diseases require fewer painkillers to achieve pain relief when they practice hypnosis. These same patients exhibit fewer signs of anxiety and experience greater comfort during medical procedures.

Hypnosis also has been shown to be effective in reducing nausea and vomiting in chemotherapy patients.

The most effective approach for acute pain appears to be the use of hypnotic suggestions focusing on anxiety reduction and minimizing the importance of the pain. For chronic pain, it is more effective to confront the pain directly under hypnosis, dealing with both the pain's physical and psychological effects.

Another area where hypnosis offers significant positive results is in dealing with pre- and post-operative patients. Using hypnosis in preparation for surgery has been shown to reduce the experience of pain during surgery, resulting in the need for less anesthetics. Hypnosis as a pain management tool with surgical patients also has been shown to reduce nausea and greatly increase the recovery rate in most patients, thereby truncating the length of time spent in the hospital. (That creates another rarely mentioned positive result: reduced medical costs!)

But efficacy and lower medical expenses are not the only positives related to the use of hypnosis for pain management. This modality has no dangerous side effects. Unlike medications, hypnosis does not become less effective with use and does not require stronger and stronger doses to cope with pain. While patients may have to ingest costly medications several times a day for years, they have the potential for reducing or eliminating their pain in just a few hypnotic sessions for significantly less cost.

Does hypnosis always work? In the area of pain control, everyone can be helped to SOME degree. There are essentially five categories into which subjects fall:

1. Those who find total and permanent relief.
2. Those that have a decrease in the severity of pain.
3. Those who experience pain relief initially, but who need occasional reinforcement.
4. Those that experience intermittent relief.
5. Those that still have pain, but feel 10-30% less pain than before.

What accounts for these differences in relief? The answer appears to be the patient's susceptibility to hypnosis - the level of relaxation reached during the hypnotic sessions. The deeper the relaxation, the more effective the pain reduction.

Certainly, no treatment for pain - whether chemical, physical or psychological - is effective all the time. However, hypnosis has shown over and over again that it can help people reduce or eliminate both acute and chronic pain. Best of all, it works its magic without any side effects.

As a safe, effective alternative for reducing sensitivity to pain, hypnosis is second to none.
